TREASURE ISLAND (1950, RR1970s) original UK quad movie poster -DISNEY-great art! Quad crown size of approx 30 x 40 inches. Printed in England by S. Fantastic looking poster on the 1970s re-release of the classic 1950 Walt Disney film of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic. The film starred Bobby Driscoll and Robert Newton. Newton's eccentric performance and over-the-top accent in this film has pretty much set the template for every stereotypical Pirate since! A fun film and a wonderful poster for it. Overall condition - very good/excellent.

Generally very clean, with bold colours. Some small areas of age-related browning/staining to the whites, mainly in the borders and on the reverse. Just one tiny 1mm nick on the left-hand side border edge.

Overall a really nice example of this highly-desirable poster. I have taken several photos so that all areas of the poster can be viewed in detail. Please also see photos for your own appraisal of the general condition. For more detailed information regarding the packaging and posting of the posters I sell please see the notes at the bottom of this page. Should you wish to read it, there is also some more information in the separate notes below giving my opinions regarding the general condition of vintage cinema posters.

Any questions or further photos required please ask. GENERAL NOTES ON THE CONDITION OF VINTAGE POSTERS. Posters are obviously by their very nature made of paper, therefore they are very delicate and easily damaged. Vintage cinema posters were considered ephemeral when they were made, of little monetary value, and were often roughly used. This means they are now to be found in a hugely varying range of condition - with anything from being completely unused and appearing brand new like they've only just been freshly-printed, to potentially having any manner or combination of minor to major issues which could include tears, pin-holes, staining, fading, creasing, hand-writing, paper-loss, fold-wear, edge-wear, edge-bumping, tape/blu-tac residue etc, and maybe more besides.

Most posters made before the 1990s were folded after printing so that they could be easily posted out in flat packages to the cinemas and distributors. Many of these folded posters may now have some degree of separation at the cross-folds, particularly the outer cross-folds - this is because the tri-folded or quad-folded paper is the most'stretched' at these points.

Posters may also have wear and splits on the folds. US one-sheets from the 1970s onwards are especially prone to this due to the commonly-used glossy paper type and the very tight machine-folding process.

British posters were hand-folded, and often unevenly. All of these things mentioned concerning the folds are to be quite normally seen on folded posters, and so they are not particularly considered major defects by most people.

Unfolded vintage posters from any country are far more unusual than the corresponding folded ones and so will carry a substantial premium in value and desirability for collectors and dealers. Everyone wants a poster to be in the best condition it can be, but sometimes some posters are so incredibly rare that their condition is almost irrelevant. That being said, I do try to source posters in the best condition as much as is possible. I do not use condition grading systems with terms such as'mint','fine','very fine', etc, because in my opinion they are too generic, lack detail, and tell you precisely nothing specific about the actual poster itself. These are also highly subjective terms - I see'mint' and'near-mint' used so often to describe items which clearly aren't that the terms become meaningless. Therefore in my listing description I will give an initial overall condition report summary and then elaborate into a more detailed description where any flaws that the poster may have, such as any ones listed above, will be mentioned. My listings will usually have at least 10-12 photos, comprising of the entire front and back and the eight sections. I will also supply any additional photos that are wanted upon request.

Which appropriately leads on to the notes on packaging and posting.. NOTES ON PACKAGING AND POSTING.

For posting purposes the poster will be very carefully packaged. I use high quality packaging materials for both folded and rolled posters. Standard ROLLED posters will be enclosed in a protective polythene sleeve then placed inside the tube and cushioned at both ends to stop movement during transit. The tube caps will be tape-sealed on the outside. My postal tubes have very strong 2.5mm thick walls. The tubes are 3 inch in diameter for added strength and internal buffer space.

That width also requires the tube to be hand-delivered and not just chucked through a letter-box. Multiple rolled posters sent in one tube will be separated by kraft paper to protect each poster and then bubble-wrapped. FOLDED posters are folded only as they were originally folded and placed inside a protective polythene sleeve. They are then placed between two pieces of thick, strong card and sealed inside a'do not bend' envelope. This parcel will be a good 15mm thick to prevent bending.

This process will also be used for lobby cards, stills, etc, and all other flat items. Anything that is sealed inside the parcel will be done using masking tape - this is strong enough to seal and hold polythene and kraft paper in place, but not sticky enough to rip or damage anything when the parcel is being unpackaged. It also makes unpackaging a lot easier than using sellotape. Parcel tape and sellotape will be used on the outside of the parcel.

All of this is not quick or cheap for me to do, but I know all too well the disappointment of receiving something damaged in the post because of some shockingly poor packaging. But, believe me, I certainly don't want a poster you've bought from me to be damaged any more than you do - therefore I will not skimp on the packaging - you can rest assured that your poster will be very carefully prepared for posting in strong, secure, quality packaging. Thank you for reading this.
