Beat Girl Quad - 1960. This could be your teenage daughter! Mad about Beat & Living for KICKS. One of the films in which UK studios attempted to cash-in on our homegrown Coffee-Bar / Beatnik / Skiffle youth culture of the late 50s & Pre-Beatles early-60s. With Beat Girl being, despite its confused interpretation of the'underground teen movement' & associated values & music, was definitely one of the more edgy-rebellious examples of this'Exploitation' genre.

However, also due to the storyline's flirtations with the darker-seamier side of London's Soho: Including a manipulative owner of strip joints (in the form of an appropriately menacing Christopher Lee); topped-off with midnight cross-country car races, and games of train line'chicken' - ensured it an'X' Cert. W hich although helped draw-in an adult audience looking for titillation & thrills - also resulted in the loss of a potentially wider/younger audience? Interestingly, the producers had initially hoped to skim just-below-the-radar of the British Board of Film Control - and achieve an'A' Classification. And out of this background, this particular Quad quad design would seem to focus on that aim: And.

Classification - was clearly designed with the UK release in mind. With it benefitting from some pretty dynamic-cool-youthful imagery that teens would surely aspire to. Combined with a liberal dose of vivid contemporary colours of the late 50s (acid green, bright yellow & ice blue over purple :) - All guaranteed to grab the attention of the young cinema-goers of 1959-60. And whether this example was part of a very limited print run/mock-up/testing would seem to be lost to history?

However, whatever copies may have survived, some were presumably offered to a foreign distributor? - despite the UK format and being entirely in English.. Was originally acquired from a dealer in Barcelona - after decades in the storeroom of a local cinema.

And the references to'COFRAM' on the rear, would seem to relate to a French distribution organisation of the 60s & 70s - which was set up to promote exclusively French films to new Latin American markets (though to further add to the confusion: Beat Girl was banned outright by the censors in France, and never received a distribution licence). With the wear-n-tear of its early years and hand-written notes from 1962 on the back, this poster must have been supplied, with at least one export print, to a Spanish distributor. Did the rounds of back street/rural fleapits - where it must have been presented as semi-porno? To small & expectant Spanish audiences, seeking to avoid Franco's harsh censorship laws..

And with the title of. Diablesa Del Striptease' -'STRIPTEASE DEVIL.

And, if you're in London, you're welcome to visit and check the poster 1st - Just text/call: 07890195351. In the Mid-90s I collected Vintage Movie Posters: And all being offered here have been carefully stored, in poster tubes in cool, dry clean conditions since. Concurrently & subsequently I have also collected a number of music posters - again, all being offered are originals only. Additionally, as I know the disappointment of receiving things that are not as presented, I'll be making every effort to describe things clearly & honestly - whilst giving any further information I can.
